Growing Hints
Olea seed can take a long time to germinate so patience is often required.
I remember sowing trays of them at the beginning of summer and nothing came up. I always kept tree seed trays longer and they germinated like weeds during the following summer about 15-18months later.
I always sow Olea seeds at the beginning or during summer as they respond to heat.
The seeds are readily eaten by birds and various animals and I assume that this process results in the fruit being removed and the hard woody seed coat being subjected to acids from the stomach could also play a role in germination – Anthony Hitchcock
