Stemless annual

leaves in basal tuft, white woolly below

Showy large bright orange flowers with black centre

Should be sown in Autumn when the difference between day and night temperatures is about 12°C .

Plant Arctotis seeds in Autumn, when the temperature range is between 8° C and 25 ° C
The sowing medium should be a 50:50 well sifted and well-rotted compost together with river sand.
Smoke treatment with smoke primer might help with germination.
Water the mixture well once it is in the seed tray.
Plant the seeds just below the surface and cover with a fine covering of the same soil mixture.
Treat with a pre-emergence fungicide like Apron XL
Keep the seeds damp until germination
The germination rate is quite low, but the seeds should germinate in 2 to 4 weeks after planting.
Once they have 2 or more leaves, they can be pricked out and put into containers.
Feed with a liquid fertiliser like Kelpak or Seagro.
