A medicinal climber with long twining stems
Short sprays of small mauve flowers
Clustered pods splitting open to display shiny red-and-black seeds
Its leaves are consumed as a vegetable in Central and East Africa
The seeds are very poisonous and can be dangerous to humans and animals if consumed
Should be sown in Spring when the difference between day and night temperatures is about 12°C.
