The leaves are spirally arranged and have white tubercles

Spike of brownish-white flowers

Waterwise plant and a good coffee-table plant

Should be sown in Spring when the difference between day and night temperatures is about 12°C.

Seed should be sown in spring and early summer.
Sterilise your soil in an oven for about 45 minutes at 180 deg C or in a microwave for 3 minutes.
You can treat with a fungicide instead of sterilising the soil.
Moisten the soil before sowing the seeds.
Grow in well-drained soil cover the seed with a very fine layer of sandy gravel.
Put the pot in a cool shady position.
Seed should be kept moist during the first few weeks and should start to germinate in about 2-3 weeks.
