Description
This is a 178 paged hard-covered book.
The name Lithops is derived from the Greek word lithos, a stone, and ops, a face.
The name was given to these plants by N E Brown in 1922
“on account of their resemblance in colour and appearance to the stones and pebbles they grow among” to quote his own words.
The history of the discovery of the first Lithops and places they were found ( by oxcart in the case of Mr Kurt Dinter) is discussed in the introduction.
Together with descriptions of how the plant is formed and where they are found geographically this makes for an interesting read.
The different plants are described and discussed with colour plates and line drawings interspersed throughout the book.
