Commonly known as a ‘Vegetable Ivory’ tree, is a massive evergreen fan palm tree growing up to 25m tall.
Normally grows on one solitary, unbranched stem.
Topped by a crown of large, grey-green leaves and it produces big round fruit with a hard white nut, hence where its common name come from.
This tree prefers hot dry climate, but can endure areas with rainfall, as long the soil is well drained.
Very drought tolerant.
