Rhizomatous, perennial grass up to 1.6m.
Leaves linear.
Spikelets 4-6mm long, in a congested, cylindrical panicle 12-25cm long, straw-coloured; involucral bristles as long as spikelets.
Protects riverbanks and streams from flooding
Should be sown in Autumn/Spring when the difference between day and night temperatures is about 12°C .
