There are hundreds of little known Cape bulbs, among the choicest wildflowers of the Cape Province of South Africa, and among the most threatened species in the world.
Cape bulbs are easy and undemanding and in their native habitat they enjoy a Mediterranean climate.
They do however grow through colder winters in cold frames and greenhouses.
Two important points… good drainage and a dry rest period during the summer.
More than 1300 species exist in the wild yet only a few hundred are known i cultivation.
The author advocates ” conservation through cultivation”.
