Germination Hints

• Plant Arctotis seeds in Autumn, when the temperature range is between 8° C and 25 ° C
• The sowing medium should be a 50:50 well sifted and well-rotted compost together with river sand.
• Smoke treatment with smoke primer might help with germination.
• Water the mixture well once it is in the seed tray.
• Plant the seeds just below the surface and cover with a fine covering of the same soil mixture.
• Treat with a pre-emergence fungicide like Apron XL
• Keep the seeds damp until germination
• The germination rate is quite low, but the seeds should germinate in 2 to 4 weeks after planting.
• Once they have 2 or more leaves, they can be pricked out and put into containers.
• Feed with a liquid fertiliser like Kelpak or Seagro.
